Question on Clothing

December 3, 2011, QUESTION: Hi, Kenny: I'm going to start hunting again after a 15 year hiatus. With the changes in clothing technology, I was hoping you could shed some light on what you think would be the best jacket/overall combination for hunting here in NW Fla between December and February? Thank you in advance and love your site. Rob, Fort Walton Beach Florida
ANSWER: Not knowing your tolerance to the cold, wet, damp conditions that you will face hunting in N.W. Florida, if you can afford it, your best bet is some type of a four-in-one system. Most consist of an outer jacket, inner jacket with removeable sleeves. All together, you have a pretty warm jacket. Mild days you can wear a vest or the inner jacket. A little cooler, the vest and the outer jacket. I bought one of these for my youngest son, and it became his "go-to" versitable year-round jacket. If you bow hunt, you may want some of the fleece or silent-weave fabrics. If you're going to wear it in bad weather, you sacrafice the quieter fabric but gain water-proofing with some of the newer rain fabrics or Gore-Tex.

This is an example of what I'm talking about.
Cabela's and Bass Pro both carry a wide selection of this type of garment. Some of them even have a matching insulated pants to go with it for those really cold days. You can access both Bass Pro and Cabela's from my website and that would allow you to refer back to my recommendations for reference.

Welcome back to hunting, and don't forget the National Rifle Association and the Florida Lifetime Hunting License will both pay for themselves in less than ten years.
I'm glad you enjoy the site, and hope you visit often.
Happy Hunting!
