Apalachicola National Forest Prescribed Fires for year 2010
(as of 09/23/2009)

According to the U.S. Forestry Service, controlled burns can take place in the Apalachicola National Forest during the dormant phases indicated on their map. When the areas indicated in orange are dormant, they can be burned any time during the period October 1, 2009 through March 15, 2010. When the areas shown in green are dormant, they can be burned any time during the period March 16, 2010 through September 30, 2010.

The weather conditions play an important role in determining when to burn. Some factors considered are whether or not it is too wet, too dry, or too windy to burn. Since the conditions of being "just right" are fairly unpredicitable, there is usually not much notice given when the decision to burn is made. The decision to burn or not to burn is usually made on a daily bases depending on the weather conditions.
