Hunting wasn’t all that was being done during the 2009 Thanksgiving weekend.
We talked to fellow hunter Eric Hope and his son who found productive ways to fill their time while waiting for a deer.
Eric knows that a good-working radio is needed when hunting with dogs. Communication with the other hunters is vital to being in the right place at the right time to shoot the deer. Here we found Eric reattaching a wire that came loose from his radio.
Having served as a Marine in the U.S.M.C, Eric knows the importance of having all your equipment in top-notch working order. Eric is seen sharpening his friend Bert’s knife. Bert related that the knife was razor sharp when new. But after field dressing many deer, hogs, and daily chores, Bert had been unable to return it to its razor-edge condition. Eric used a wet rock and fine oil to skillfully sharpen the knife to make it good as new.
A young man spending time in the woods with his dad is never bored. While waiting for the dogs to jump a deer, Eric’s son took advantage of the opportunity to hone up on his shooting skills. We found him shooting at a Coke bottle with his Red Rider BB gun.
