Hunting at Eglin AFB WMA Area?

by Josh
(N.W. Florida)

December 27, 2011, QUESTION: I just moved into the area and have been looking for somewhere to hunt. I always hunted the Eglin AFB reservation growing up and know that areas are very territoral with hunters. Looking and reading some of this website seems like its very well managed. I just wanted to get some info on getting into hunting this area. I only bow hunt, and got out of gun hunting a few years ago. Any info and help I could get would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time. Hope to hear back soon. Thanks, Josh.

ANSWER: Josh: Welcome back to the Eglin AFB area. I know how you feel. When I returned home from the military, all the hunting areas around where I grew up changed, disappeared, or new ones were formed. So finding a place to hunt can take a little time because you have to meet new people and form new alliances.

Don't be afraid to ask around as I'm sure you will be frequenting sporting goods stores and bow shops for local area info. But as far as getting back into the Eglin AFB WMA area, here is a link to the address and phone number to the Jackson Guard Natural Resources Facility:

Eglin AFB Wildlife Management Area.

Again, welcome back, and good hunting!
