August 10, 2011, QUESTION: I would like to find out about hog hunting on Blackwater Management Area in northwest Florida. I saw something on T.V. about it. Thank you.
ANSWER: The Blackwater Wildlife Management area is a good place for wild hog hunting. You can also hunt wild hog in the Blackwater Small Game Area. I've summarized the basic information for you as follows:
HOG HUNTING ON BLACKWATER WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA:
Need hunting license and management area permit.
Bag limit: No size or bag limits.
Hunting seasons:
Archery Season: October 22, 2011 through November 20, 2011.
Small Game Season: November 12, 2011 through March 4, 2012 (Quota permit: Yes - if hunting during any quota period; not needed if hunting during the other hunting dates.)
General Gun Still Season: November 24-27, 2011 and December 17, 2011 through February 8, 2012. (Quota permit needed if hunting November 24-27, December 17-25 or January 23 through February 8.)
General Gun Dog Season: November 24-27, 2011; December 17, 2011 through January 1, 2012; and January 16, 2012 through February 8, 2012. (Quota permit needed.)
Muzzleloading Gun Season: December 3-5, 2011.
Family Still Hunt: December 10-11, 2011. (Quota permit needed.)
Archery/Muzzleloading Gun Season: February 16-26, 2012 (except Field Trial Area); and January 20-22, 2012 (Field Trial Area). (Quota permit needed if hunting in the Field Trial Area.)
NOTE: Hunting wild hogs with dogs is prohibited during
Archery/Muzzleloading gun season.
HOG HUNTING ON BLACKWATER SMALL GAME AREA:
Need hunting license and management area permit.
Bag limit: No size or bag limits.
Quota permit: Not required.
Wild hog - dog season:
No more than 3 free-running dogs per party may be used.
Season dates:
May 6-8, 2011; June 3-5, 2011; June 17-19, 2011; July 1-3, 2011; July 15-17, 2011; August 5-7, 2011; August 19-21, 2011; September 2-4, 2011; and September 16-18, 2011.
