Hog Hunting in Thomas Creek & Cary areas

by Anonymous

QUESTION:

I just got my hunting license and management area license. I applied for Muzzleloading hunts in Thomas Creek and Cary areas. My question is it says no bag limit on hogs. So when its not during a quota hunt for deer and other game can you hunt for hog most of the season?

ANSWER:

As I understand the regulations, all hunts are by quota permit only for the Thomas Creek King Road Unit and Cary areas. Therefore, there is not a general open season without a quota hunt permit for any game animal. There are no open seasons outside of the quotas. It's only legal to hunt these areas by quota permit. So, if you don't get drawn for the quota permit, you're not allowed to hunt in these areas.

Under the bag and possession limit section of the WMA brochure, section 2 refers to wild hog no size or bag limit. What this means is they want the hogs gone. So whatever hog you feel like skinning, no matter how big or how small, is legal to take when hunting during the muzzle loading gun season, the family hunt, the general gun season, small game season, and the archery season. You may take any number of or any size hog. So should you get a quota permit for any of the quota hunts previously mentioned the no-size, no-bag limit rules would apply. As a reminder, wild hogs may not be transported alive.

Hope you get your permits. Good luck with your hunts.
