Hog and Coyote Hunting
March 12, 2012, QUESTION: Can't find a place to hunt for free. Don't want to pay $250 to sit at a bait stand and shoot animals, especially the ones I can go to the grocery store and get a lot cheaper. The regulation seem to be very contradicting in the WMA,s allowing only rifle hunting during deer season, even for predators. All I want to know is, can I hunt anywhere for Predators without jumping through all the hoops. I know good hunting practices, what to and not to shoot and when. The regs talk about game when I look up predators and they list regs for animals I do not want to mess with. I would just like to know the Predator rules, ie-- Electronic calls, night hunting etc.
ANSWER: Boots, This year most WMAs have allowed electronic calls for coyotes during normal shooting hours, which are one half hour before sunrise until one half hour after sunset during most open seasons except for Spring turkey. Florida has not yet opened a year-long season for coyotes on public land. But they have offered several special hunts for hog on several WMAs, some of which are at night.
