Deer Hunting in the Osceola WMA
January 20, 2012, QUESTION: Have you ever been deer hunting in the Osceola Wildlife Management Area? Or have you heard if the hunting is any good? or if there are any deer there at all?
ANSWER: Though I've never hunted in the Osceola Wildlife Management Area, due to the use of permitted dog hunting during the first phase and the antler restriction of only one antler at least five inches long would indicate an adequate supply of deer. If I was just gonna load up and go there, I would definitely check the Big Gum Swamp Wilderness Area since it has roads all the way around and is a no-vehicle access wilderness area. Every time I've hunted one of these places, I have found the deer that have relocated into the area to escape both still hunters and dog hunters. It should be a real good place to start.
Good luck.
