Chigger Repellent

by Brenda Presnell
(Tallahassee, FL)

Chigger

Chigger

Every turkey hunting season I seem to run into the problem of getting bit by those darn aggravating little chiggers. Anytime you're out in the woods, you come to the top of the list of their supper menu. Let me share with you a discovery of a repellent for those microscopic critters that cannot be seen by the naked eye. Plain and simple -- sulfer powder! Sulfer powder can be purchased at just about any drug store. All you need to do is sprinkle it in and on your shoes and clothes before you head out for the woods. Go ahead and give it a try before your next hunt.

Helpful hint for you ladies -- mix the sulfer powder with your favorite bath powder and it won't smell so bad. Turkeys don't have a sharp sense of smell (they make up for that with superior sight and hearing).

Even if you're not a turkey hunter, remember that chiggers are prevelent this time of year when you're out doing yard work, or just enjoying the outdoors.
